Digital Camera Magazine Photographer of the Year 2007

1. The OrganisersThe organiser of the Digital Camera magazine Photographer of the Year competition is Future Publishing Ltd. The organisers, employees of Future Publishing Ltd or its group companies, and any of the official partners, sponsors, or associates of Future relating to the Competition and their families are not eligible to enter this competition.

2. Eligibility The competition is open to amateur and professional photographers of all nationalities who are over 18 years of age and who have access to the internet. Entries must have been taken no more than five years prior to the category submission closing date.
A maximum of five entries per category are permitted. Your photos should not exceed the maximum size of 2MB, in JPEG format.

An image that has won a prize in a national or international competition or that has been used for commercial purposes [i.e. received payment and published] is not eligible for entry.
There is no entry fee associated with the Digital Camera magazine Photographer of the Year 2007. All entrants agree to participate in any publicity in connection with this competition.

3. Display of entries By submitting a photograph to the competition, all entrants agree to:
Their photograph being voted for by registered members of http://www.dcmag.co.uk/.
Photographs being displayed, along with the entrant’s name, the title of the submission, the number of votes, views, and comments each photograph has received on the Competition website.

Photographs being displayed on some or all of the following:

Editor’s Choice – Digital Camera magazine’s selection of the best entries. These selections will be updated on a regular basis.
Latest Images – all entries will be displayed in the main Competition gallery of photographs held within http://www.photographeroftheyear2007.com/.

4. Entering your photographs Entries must be submitted in accordance with the instructions set out on www.photographeroftheyear2007.com/enter.aspx.

5. Image editingYou may use image enhancement and manipulation to optimise an entry into the competition, although you are not allowed to add or remove significant elements. To clarify:
Adjustments to colour, contrast, saturation, levels and curves and sharpening are expected.
Cropping is allowed, as is stitching to create panoramic images.

Cloning should be limited to general cleaning work - no significant elements of a composition should be removed or added.
Dodging and burning is permitted.

Perspective adjustments to correct for lens distortions are allowed.Where appropriate, original files may be requested if a photograph reaches the shortlist of photographs selected by the independent panel of judges.

Architectural Photographer of the Year:Buildings, bridges, historical, interiors Closes 16th November 2007

Fine Art Photographer of the Year:Still life, abstract, landscapes, nudes Closes 23rd November 2007

Black & White Photographer of the Year:Any subject, as long as it’s mono (toning is permitted)Closes 30th November 2007

Winners announced online and in issue 70 of Digital Camera magazine on 12th February 2008.

7. JudgingThe organisers will appoint an independent judging panel to determine the short-listed entries and winners in each category. The decision of the judges in determining the short-list and deciding the winners in each category is final and the organisers will not enter into any correspondence regarding the judging or organisation of the competition.

8. NotificationWinner, runners-up, highly commended and commended entrants within each category will be announced on the website and in the magazine on 12th February 2008. The overall winner of Digital Camera magazine’s Photographer of the Year 2007 will also be announced on the website and in the magazine on 12th February 2008.
9.Prizes

9.1 The Digital Camera magazine Photographer of the Year 2007 winnerThe overall winner of the Competition will win £15,000 cash prize.

9.2 Category winners and runners-upOther prizes will be awarded to each category winner and two runners-up as follows: Category winner - TBC plus a free subscription to Digital Camera magazine 1st runner up - TBC plus a free subscription to Digital Camera magazine 2nd runner up - TBC plus a free subscription to Digital Camera magazine

The organisers reserve the right to change or add to the prizes and substitute with a comparable alternative due to unforeseen circumstances. Any changes will be posted on the competition website. Prizes are non transferable and no cash equivalent will be offered. If the quality of entry falls below the required standard, the organisers reserve the right not to award a prize/prizes.

At the point of notification of winning entries, the winners must supply full postal address information (and if necessary bank transfer details) for the purpose of sending out the category prizes. Once address details have been supplied, winners should allow 28 days for receipt of their category prizes.

10. Copyright The entrant must be the sole author and owner of copyright, intellectual property, and all other proprietary rights in all pictures entered. It is the legal responsibility of the entrant, and not the organisers, to ensure they comply with these ownership and copyright requirements and own the rights to reproduce their images. Entries that do not fulfil these criteria will be deemed ineligible and disqualified.

11. Reproduction The organisers do not make any claim on the copyright of your images. The photographer will retain copyright and where an image or images are reproduced, the photographer will be credited.

12. MerchandiseThe organisers reserve the world-wide royalty free right and licence for the full period of copyright to reproduce the prize-winning and short-listed images on, or in relation to, Digital Camera magazine Photographer of the Year merchandise.

13. Liability Images are uploaded at the photographer’s risk and the organisers regret they cannot accept any liability for the unauthorised duplication or use of images submitted to the website.
